D00d. This wus a bitch. Mainly cos for the past couple of weeks, I'd lost all amount of my drawing talent. Seriously. Poof. Gone. It took me well over 100 sketches to get this pose looking remotely acceptable. That's how bad this was. And that's just the sketching. Don't get me started about the colouring. Though I must admit, realistic hair is fun to do once you actually get the hang of it. :D

Anyhoo, those who have watched my gallery may recognise this pic; well, it's a remake of one of my older FFX fanart pics that's somewhere in the cold, cold recesses of my gallery. A recreation of the Sending ritual that Yuna performed at Kilika (is it that, it's been too long since I last played...) Only this time, m00chly improved cos I now have the skillz in Photoshop to actually pull it off how I originally envisioned it. Which is nice. Especially compared to the first attempt. *shudder*

Enjoy!

Wow, Tom. It was worth all the work. The coloring is good, the pose is good, the hair -- awesome job, there. The clothing folds are also mighty impressive as is the overall flow of the picture. Very nice composition.

Oooh, blingy effects. I think the toils of this time off show most on her facial expression but that's a bitch to do even if you work at expression for months on end, I should know. It's lookin' good at least ^^

Gotta say that the water effects and background really give this piece an edge. Great work. I usually have a tough time doing hair. Any tips?

Glad to see you got over your slump in style. I love the light effects! The movement of the pose is excilent!

Well, for realistic looking hair, try and rip the colours from a reference if possible, and use your own hair as a guideline for how it should look. As for the method, I used a 25% opacity, 50% flow airbrush to get the main colours down, and then used a small smudge brush to add in the individual strand effects. Best way of doing that is using an "up, down, up down" motion with your mouse or tablet as you go over it. Takes a while to get used to it, but you eventually get some great effects with it. :)
